Summertime lazy

Chicago has been incredibly humid lately. It's been nearly impossible to do anything outside, so I've just been sprawled out on the floor or my bed for the time being, stalking Pinterest boards and looking at recipes I could make once my motivation comes back.

I explored a little in my neighborhood the other day and came across this beauty just two blocks down.

It is 100% time to retire to my bed and eat this leftover Birthday cake. Is it sad that I gave up entirely on my "bikini body"? Hope you're having a wonderful day!

Birthday boy

This week, we celebrated a very special someone's birthday! I made Jake a chai tea cake after his recent chai addiction, hoping that it would be a hit. I found a recipe on Pinterest and made this baby from scratch. Ooh la la! Once I master it, I will definitely share the recipe with my fellow chai tea addicts. We had a dinner party with some awesome friends and ended the night with cake, a few beers and went to a nearby baseball field to play some soccer. What a great summer night! Happy birthday to one of my favorite people :)

Palm pants and peonies

There's something wonderful about a dreary Saturday afternoon. Maybe because it's the perfect excuse to stay in and watch movies with a nice cup of tea, or it's the fact that no one expects you to change out of your pajamas all day (don't judge).

Halfway through today, I decided to snap a photo of these palm pants that have been forever stashed in my closet. It's very easy to feel conspicuous with a noisy, distracting pattern so I paired them with a sheer white tank. I'm not sure why I was so afraid of these pants before because I am seriously in love with them now!

Of course I took some glamour shots of flowers to share with you. These beautiful peonies brighten my day! Hope everyone is having a nice weekend!

Fourth of July!

Good morning! I hope everyone had a fabulous Fourth of July!
I really wanted to post yesterday, but we started the festivities around noon so it was best that I stayed away from all social media and electronics.. Ahem..

Anyways, It was finally a beautiful day! We've been having so much rain and colder evenings this summer, so when the sun pops out, I take full advantage of that and bike down to the beach to catch some rays and people watch. We scored the perfect spot to have a picnic on this cement peninsula where we sat and had some food and drinks in the sun while we watched all the volleyball players and parties ensue on the shore nearby.
We aren't used to this sunny weather, so I packed some SPF 30 accordingly and we STILL managed to get a little toasty under the hot sun.

Once the sun went down, you could see a complete panorama of the chicago skyline. Everywhere you looked in miles and miles in every direction, there were fireworks going off in every neighborhood and surrounding suburbs. It was incredible!
Definitely going to rest and recover today and maybe take a mini road trip to the suburbs later to bird-sit. I hope everyone had a safe holiday weekend!
