A Summer Stroll

San Francisco has been an absolute joy so far but lets be honest...  The housing market out here is just a litttllleee ridiculous.  Since arriving, we have walked about 10 miles a day (hel-lo nice legs and goodbye kankles!) and have seen about 2-3 apartments a day on average.  We have been arriving early to appointments,  acting promptly on recently posted apartment listings, and showing up extremely prepared to sign a lease yet there is always one or two people ahead of us!  HOW.  HOW is this possible?

Let me set the scene and vent my frustrations a little. One of the listings was posted around 8pm, we responded at 11pm, the landlord got back to us at 7am and she let us know that someone already applied and signed the lease.

WHAT?!  Are these people magical vampires or what?  To add insult to injury, there have been several “application fees” ranging from $25-$35/applicant.  Damn you, San Francisco!  You’re lucky you’re so beautiful.

Wish us luck with finding a place because at this point we are ready to move into a renovated dumpster or van just so we don’t have to play this game anymore.  Any suggestions for renting in this market out here?  We are looking at a small apartment in a wonderful area tomorrow, so wish us luck :)  Happy Tuesday!

California, Here we Come!

Safe and Sound

Well, we made it!  After a very rough week of packing, hauling, sorting and cleaning, we had our garage sale at the end of the weekend and it was such a success!   We’ve never actually had a garage sale before so we started off with the help of our few closest friends and naturally,  lots of alcohol was involved.  We ended up losing track of time both days as we drank and cackled from our alley garage and we managed to make quite a few sales!

Mother Nature was also into it, and she cooperated and blessed us with two amazingly sunny days. After it was all said and done, we said really tough goodbyes to friends and family and packed our sedated cat (who actually wasn’t sedated nearly enough as it turns out) and hopped on the plane to California!  In between cat screams and my crying, I like to think we made the plane ride very memorable for fellow passengers.

Our first night here was Jake’s Birthday so we celebrated with a pitcher of margaritas and fell asleep around 5pm like the senior citizens we’ve suddenly become.  On our first full day, we visited Half Moon Bay which is so so stunning.

We weren’t able to see the tide pools this time around since the crashing waves and high tide got in the way, but we enjoyed scavenging for sea glass amongst the rubble, eating a very small picnic (aka bag of chips) and we explored the rocky shores for most of the day.

I am so excited to call this beautiful new city home, though I still miss my friends and family a crazy amount.  I’m homesick for the people but not Chicago surprisingly, so I’ve already had some stern talks with friends and family about visiting and possibly moving out here to help with those feelings.  I think a few more pitchers of margaritas and more ocean time will help us settle in much quicker than expected ;D  We are glad to be on the west coast finally, and now it’s time to search for an apartment!  Wish us luck!

Romping Around

Palm Print Romper: H&M

Up to No Good

Happy beautiful Tuesday!

This weekend, my favorite friend drove up from Urbana to see little ol’ me for Independence day.  As you can guess we are both died shortly afterwards of smoke inhalation (joking) but lemme tell ya, we seriously could NOT find any fireworks or sparklers at all in the City!  We ended up going to about 5 different stores and stocked up on picked over smoke bombs which are actually more dangerous than you might think.  We both got burned all over our bodies and nearly blew up a fence/garbage can/each other but hey, we got some good shots along the way which made it worth it :)

Time to finish packing up the apartment since our moving truck will be coming this Friday.  Eeek!
What did everyone do for the 4th of July?  I hope you have a good rest of your week!
