The Perfect Holiday Skirt Two Ways

Ohh, the Holiday season. A non-stop onslaught of family gatherings, gift giving, parties and the resulting hangovers. Those things bring seasonal funky party dresses, bright colors, sexy silhouettes and feathery skirts. I've always avoided the siren songs of these festive pieces until now... *dun dun dun*... I caved and bought an ostrich feather miniskirt! Why have I avoided buying one until now? Maybe it was the fear of molting all over the apartment and dance floor. Or perhaps because of my rambunctious cat who will stop at nothing to stalk and maul anything with feathers to death. Either way, the skirt is here to stay and i've learned a few things about it. First, this thing hides a lot under those little feathers. It's sort of like a magician's cape but for your ass and thighs. Then, there's the fact that it sways and moves and shakes in a way that you wouldn't believe. I seriously could NOT stop dancing around like a big, sexy, Big Bird.

Now that we are all thinking of our beloved Sesame Street character waggling his ass around (you're welcome lol), here are two ways to wear a feathered party skirt! One look is more edgy and structured, while the other is more Khaleesi at a company Christmas party. Let's have a peek, shall we?

If there's a prop, you can count on me flinging it

Structured and Textural

Scored this stunning embellished top from H&M and thought it would look great with the feathered skirt. I tucked the top in and paired it with my favorite faux leather jacket. I was initially really nervous about showing off so much leg so I wore some black booties to, I don't know, hide an inch of ankle I guess haha. You would be surprised how modest you will feel after covering your feet up! It's really weird! I braided my hair up and off of my shoulders to show off the beautiful detail around the neck and sleeves on this top. Out of the two outfits, I definitely felt more like "me" in this one. What do you think? Here comes look number two...

Loose and Flowy

This look is a little more subtle and romantic than the first. I paired an oversized dark, emerald green, wool sweater with the feathered skirt and wore a nude heel to elongate my legs and show them off a little more. I kept my makeup very simple so I could wear these dangly earrings I found for $10 at H&M (such a steal!). The vibe on this outfit is different than the first and it seems more ladylike so I found myself acting super proper, dainty, and princess-like. Isn't it crazy how much your clothes can change how you act and feel?

Ok, so now that you saw how I would wear this skirt, how would you wear it? Do you have any favorite holiday staples or things you cannot live without? Also, is there an item that you wish was available year round and not just seasonally? For me, it would have to be EGGNOG! Thanks so much for reading! I hope everyone is doing well and getting super excited for all of the holidays coming up!

    1. I do too! I never thought I would be into something covered in fluff but these are just so fun! I bet you would look great in a feathered skirt! I would definitely recommend sizing up or just taking a strong look at the sizing info provided. A lot of these skirts have "bands" of feather material that doesn't stretch so it sliced my booty into segments like an earthworm hahahah Thanks so much for your sweet comment Lauren! I hope you're having a great week :)

    1. I KNOW! Hahah I'm trying not to go overboard but there's this blue one too for next time... hahaha So it's been pretty nice out here! The day I wore this skirt it was low 70's/high 60's so It wasn't bad at all! I'm thinking that this move to a warmer climate was a great idea, however it's been almost equally as warm back in Chicago this Winter (kind of scary). Oh no! I hope you're not getting sick! Take care of yourself and stay warm up there Kirstie!

    1. Thanks Raquel! I got soo lucky with these earrings! When I first saw them I thought they were a littllee too wild for my tastes, but they're turning out to go perfectly with my otherwise simple wardrobe! And you would be surprised at how much goes with a feathered skirt (I know I was!). I've seen girls match it with plaid shirts, gray tees and everything in between. You would look adorable in one :) Hope you're having a great week!!

  7. When I first read 'ostrich feather mini skirt' I thought no... Can that really look good? But oh my gosh it REALLY does look amazing! It's so fun and cute, and kinda sexy! :D You are totally rocking that skirt, girl, I don't think I could pull it off but it looks sooo good on you! I have to say, I really adore those earrings, too! They really bring out your eye colour. :) Way to go, you look like a runway model!! Next stop - session in VOGUE! :D x

    1. You crack me up! I literally thought the same thing... Seriously. I've always avoided them because they get such a bad rep and I've only seen them on club going girls with scandalous tops or underwear hanging out hahah I totally think you could pull it off! Just play with textures and fits to make it different and non-clubby. I'm so happy i've changed your mind on these! Now it's YOUR turn to buy one ;) Hahahaha! I felt soo insecure at first because THIS MUCH of my legs never see the light of day. That means a lot to me that you like how they turned out :) Thank you so much Kay!

  8. I´d prefer the first way of styling it, but both look adorable. The embellished collar really looks exquisite. I rarely wear jewelry at all, so this would be a great way to incorporate some into my daily life.
